Indy 500 Endurance Challenge – Le Mans Style

Perfect for a team that isn’t afraid to pick up some speed!  This fast paced event pits teams against each other in an Indy Le Mans Style Corporate Race Carting event.  Using the principles of the teamwork necessary in the Indy series, participants will engage in plotting a strategic plan to earn the most laps in this endurance racing event.

Foundation and Briefing:  Participants will be pre-assigned to teams based on what best meets your objectives for individual and team interaction.  The overall objective of the Endurance Challenge is for each team to complete as many laps as possible during the race.  Teams will be given the race rules, team identities will be formed and strategies will be developed.  A brief foundation setting will take place to align current company opportunities and challenges to the overall event.

Indy 500 Endurance Challenge – Le Mans Style:  Teams will have approximately 2 hours to race that includes the rotation of team members and pit stops.  Each will require efficient development of a strategy, alternative analysis, implementation, and management for process improvement.  Revenues are earned based on the overall achievement of race objectives.  Teams will be monitored on the ‘race board’ which highlights the real-time activity of each team during the race.

Managing the Results:  After all the teams have completed the race, the group will reconvene to begin a short debrief session.  Teams will see how simple assumptions drove a strategy that may not have included the most efficient way to earn performance revenues.  With limited resources allocated to each team, participants will quickly see the opportunity that would have allowed them to band together and increase the potential for performance results.  But of course, the spirit of competition is always fun at an individual team level as long as it doesn’t get in the way of the bigger team picture!

Indy 500 Endurance Challenge Sample Agenda

The optimal timeline for the Indy 500 Endurance Challenge is 3 – 4 hours.  This private race track is located in the Bradenton and St. Pete’s area just south of Tampa, FL.  The program is subject to race track availability.  The maximum number of participants is 30.

The Challenge is delivered using a 4-part delivery format:

Think – Teams learn a bit about what it takes to be a successful Indy 500 racing team.  Team members will learn about teamwork, equipment, strategy, and execution.  The group will be put into teams of 3 to begin the process of naming their Indy Team.

Engage – Teams are briefed on the rules of the race.  As team members suit up into their racing gear, each team member will practice driving the team race cart to get a feel for the speed and maneuverability of the cart.  Speeds can get up to 45 miles per hour in these carts!  Strategy and final adjustments are made before the race begins.

Activate – The race begins!  Teams will have approximately 2 hours to achieve the measurements required to meet the overall objectives.  Team members will rotate as drivers throughout the race.  The official race board monitors the performance of each team in real-time.  Teams will measure their results and make any changes in strategy as the race continues.

Manage – After the race, the overall results will be revealed.  It’s not just the fastest team that wins – a series of measurements will ensure that all teams are awarded.  An active debrief will engage team members in dialogue about their overall performance.  Alignment back to the workplace will link the learning on the track to the day to day challenges teams maneuver through in the dynamic environment of a competitive workplace.
